»BUDD-e is the first car in the Internet of Things. It thinks, learns and understands us – it truly is a buddy.«

Dr Herbert Diess,
Chairman of the Board of Management of the Volkswagen brand

Keeping an eye on things

Long before you actually get home, you can see what’s happening outside your house on the display in the vehicle. With the newly developed Home-Net Viewer, images can be transmitted to the vehicle – for example (via MirrorLink™ from App Connect) images from a camera that show who’s knocking on your front door. That can be a life-saver if you’re stuck in a traffic jam. Through an intercom system, the driver can even inform the guest of the delay and let them in.

At home while on the go

Being on the road with BUDD-e feels a bit like having brought your home right along with you. Thanks to Car-Net App Connect, many smart home functions can be operated via the touchscreen in the vehicle. So even while you’re away on holiday, you can always check whether you really switched off the hob. And check the fridge to see if you still have everything you need while you’re on the way home. The transition between the car and your home becomes a seamless flow – that’s the Internet of Things.

Seen in the right light

Using a multifunctional touch slider, you can adjust the ambient lighting to the colours of your choice.

No more switches

The car of the future takes you at your word. The special thing is that instead of contrived voice commands, BUDD-e understands everyday speech. The system also figures out who is talking and where the person is sitting in the vehicle. If the passenger says, “I'm cold”, the car switches on the heat – in the passenger’s climate zone.

Travel planning 2.0

Not only the driver, but also the passengers can suggest music tracks and navigation destinations with their smartphones during the trip. It’s as simple as that with the Our Journey app. Everyone’s desired intermediate stops are displayed on the monitor in the rear.

Drop Box

Deposit here! In the future, the postman can deliver parcels and packages to the car. The mobile mailbox is accessible from the outside, and an access code ensures that only authorised persons can open the Drop Box. This interactive mailbox is not only smart, but can even cool the contents of the delivery. In the future, smaller spare parts and other items will not only be ordered from BUDD-e, but actually delivered directly to it.

Don’t forget!

BUDD-e reminds its passengers when they’ve left something important in the vehicle. The dedicated app makes it possible to use your smartwatch or smartphone to locate keys, wallet and so on in the vehicle, or view an inventory of all objects. On rainy days, the intelligent reminder points out if you’ve left your umbrella behind. All this is made possible by tiny radio stickers that you can apply to any object.

Digital arm

Gesture control enables a speedy departure without fishing around for your keys. On the exterior of BUDD-e, sensors capture infrared light – and detect people when they’re approaching the minivan. So all it takes to open the sliding door is a brief, intuitive gesture from an authorised person. The same principle applies to the electrically powered tailgate. It’s a further development of the Easy Open function that is already available in many Volkswagen models. A point projected onto the ground shows precisely where you have to place your foot. After the corresponding foot movement (Virtual Pedal 3.0), the tailgate opens without further ado. Automatically.
